Washington v. Main Street

Last night the President called for a "Jobs Bill" in his state of the union address.  This request is emblematic of what is wrong with the governing approach of the current administration.  The idea that Washington can wave a magic wand via legislation to make jobs appear is a fallacy.  The only resources that the federal government has are those that they have taken from individual citizens like you and me who live on Main Street.  Thus any jobs that the federal government may "create" through legislation reduce the resources available on Main Street to create other jobs and produce goods that consumers desire.  Just as the "stimulus" response of 2009 did not succeed any "jobs bill" of 2010 is also doomed to failure.  If the President really wanted to spur job creation he would act to really shrink the size of the federal government and let Main Street keep their resources for use in creating real jobs that will meet the need of individual consumers.  Unfortunately, based on the address last night, I do not expect that will happen under this administration.
