The Point of No Return

"We have not yet reached the point of no return.  We are still free as a people to choose whether we shall continue speeding down the "road to serfdom," as Friedrich Hayek entitled his profound and influential book, or whether we shall set tighter limits." (Milton & Rose Friedman, Free to Choose, p. 6)

In the last twenty-eight years we have gone further down that "road to serfdom," but in Friedman's inimitable words we are still "free to choose".  Will we choose to set limits, to forgo further expansion of the behemoth we call Government?  Will we stop and consider, not the so-called failures of the market, but the failures of those who claim to protect us from ourselves?  I hope so, for if we do not do so soon we will truly have reached "the point of no return".
