The Disease of Protectionism

That protectionism is a disease and not a palliative is a truism that has been shown by economists for more than two centuries.  England had her greatest growth in wealth during the nineteenth century, not in small part due to free trade policies.  Donald Boudreaux, Chairman of the Economics Dept. of George Mason University, makes the case with wit and eloquence in his latest essay on economics.  We need to avoid this disease during the current economic turbulence or we will irreparably slow the recovery.
