Is Government Spending Good Spending?

Some, including myself, would argue that Government spending is not good spending.  In fact it is of limited value and often counterproductive for the economy because it is not based on the wants and desires of the consumers as evaluated through market decisions.  Rather it is spending based on political whims and notions of what ought to be done.  It is usually spending that takes no account of unintended consequences of these political actions with the inefficiencies and waste the result.  Economist Mario Rizzo explains the issue well at Think Markets.
Think about this the next time someone praises the stimulus spending of our Federal Government.
