Your Tax Dollars at Work

One of the results of the "Stimulus" bill passed by Congress is the opportunity taxpayers have to help out needy corporations.  One example has been reported by CNN; that of Microsoft and the bridge that will be completed with the help of $11 million of stimulus funding.  You might ask why Microsoft and the city of Redmond, Washington need your tax dollars to complete this bridge.  I checked a recent balance sheet for Microsoft Corporation and noted that they had more than $20 Billion of cash and short-term investments available.  Now I recognize they have bills to pay, but surely they do not need the compulsion of the Federal Government to scrounge through your pockets to provide a paltry $11 million for the bridge that will primarily benefit their employees when they have more than 1,800 times this amount sitting in their corporate coffers.  This is the reality of the "stimulus" bill and I assure you this example is not unique.  It is merely the case of seeing your tax dollars at work.

I hoped this story about Microsoft was an April Fool's Day story. Alas.

Alas indeed.
I also heard what I thought might be an April Fool's Day joke: a radio advertisement for "Obama Chia Pet".
Apparently it is for real (Walgreen's has a "special" for $19.99). It would be funny if it was not so grotesque.
